Asda - Buy 6 or More and save 25% (until 5 March 2023)

Asda has a decent promotion on wine running until and including this coming weekend (i.e. until Sunday 5th March).  Asda clearly know their shoppers and this tends to result in an overabundance in the wine aisles of unambitious brands lacking much in depth and character.  But, if you are wanting to stock up on Barefoot, Trivento, Jam Shed etc this is the weekend to do it.  Personally, I'm more interested in the few bargains that are available on more 'upmarket' wines.  For example, the Riesling from the House of Trimbach in the Alsace region of France founded in 1626 and now in its 12th generation of family ownership is currently listed on the Asda website at £17.00 a bottle.  This is a wine widely regarded as one of best expressions of riesling from the region and typically retails in the UK around the £20 mark.  At the 'normal' Asda price you could buy a case of 6 for £102.  On this weekend's offer, whether you include this wine in a mixed case of 6 or go the whole hog, you pay just £12.75 per bottle!

Trimbach Riesling; a bargain at £12.75 a bottle

Another bottle that catches my eye and might be worth a punt is Asquith Gardens Traditional English sparkling wine. This was an Asda special to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last year.  It is a traditional champagne-style wine made 'somewhere in England' from classic champagne grape varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier although the exact winemaker is not credited.  It is currently selling for £16.00 reduced from £18.00 which, although more expensive than discounted prices around the Jubilee weekend, would still come in at £12.00 as part of a case of 6.  Not bad for a bottle-fermented English 'champagne' substitute.

Going towards the other end of the price range it is rare these days to see acceptable wine below £6 but how about the popular Yealands Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough for £5.63?  Yes, that's the price when you add 25% off after it's already discounted from £9.50 to £7.50. And finally, what about throwing in a bottle of the multi award-winning Asda Extra Special Rueda now just £5.00 (£3.75 with the discount) and a bottle of the surprisingly moreish Feteasca Regala in the Wine Atlas series, £5.50 (£4.13 at discount price)?

So there you have it - 5 recommendations for 'Buy 6 or More and save 25%' at Asda this weekend leaving you a free choice of the 6th bottle.  I recommend doubling up on the Trimbach Riesling!
